What should I wear?

We have shared guidance for each event in the schedule above but feel free to dress in whatever you feel most comfortable in. If this is your first Indian wedding and you would like to wear Indian attire, there are many options you can explore:

For Women:

  • Lehengas: These are traditional Indian skirts paired with a blouse (choli) and a dupatta (scarf).
  • Sarees: A saree is a long piece of cloth, usually around six to nine yards, draped elegantly over the body, paired with a blouse and a petticoat.
  • Anarkalis: This is a long, flowy dress with a fitted bodice and a flared skirt, often paired with churidar pants and a dupatta. Anarkalis are known for their graceful, regal appearance.
  • Shararas and Ghararas: These are traditional outfits consisting of a long tunic (kurti) paired with wide-legged pants (sharara) or a skirt-like lower garment (gharara), and often accompanied by a dupatta.

For pre-wedding events we would recommend Lehengas, Anarkalis, or Sharara/Ghararas for women and a Lehenga or Saree for a more formal look for the wedding ceremony. We also recommend packing flats as the property is undulating and most events will be in grassy areas.

For Men:

  • Kurta Pajamas: A kurta is a long tunic paired with loose-fitting pants (pajamas). This outfit is comfortable yet stylish, often made from fabrics like cotton or silk.
  • A Nehru jacket is a hip-length, tailored jacket with a mandarin collar, which is also known as a band collar. It typically features a button-down front and can have pockets on the sides or chest, and is paired with a Kurta Pajama for a more formal look.
  • Bandhgalas: Also known as Jodhpuri suits, these are formal jackets with a Nehru collar, worn with matching trousers. Bandhgalas offer a sophisticated and contemporary take on traditional Indian wear.

Men can opt for Kurta Pajamas with or without a Nehru Jacket for the pre wedding events and Bandhgalas or Nehru jackets for the wedding.

There are several online stores like kalkifashion.com, Perniaspopupshop.com, Azafashion.com, or Lashkaara.com that offer a range of outfits and can ship internationally and for those in London, Southhall has a variety of Indian stores if you would like to try your outfits on beforehand.

If you are in Delhi before before the events and prefer shopping in person, these stores have multiple locations in Delhi and offer ready-made collections for wedding guests:

  • Frontier Raas, Kalki, Indya, Fab India, Global Desi, Mohey for women’s
  • Twamev, Tasva, Manyavar, Fab India for men’s

I want to travel around India, where should I go?

December is “in season” throughout India which enables real breadth in the type (and length) of holiday you can have in the country.

For a week long holiday near Delhi, we would recommend selecting 3 destinations from the below:

Agra – Go for the architecture and rich culture. Agra was once the center of Mughal culture and hosts the Taj Mahal (one of the seven wonders of the world), Agra Fort (UNESCO world heritage site), Fatehpur Sikri (ancient city which once served as a Mughal capital). Mughal architecture is strongly influenced by Persian, Islamic and Indian styles.

Jaipur – Historically one of the wealthiest parts in India known for its opulence and rich cultural heritage. Go for the beautiful palaces and forts in distinctive Rajput style.

Delhi - The vibrant capital of India, offers tourists a rich tapestry of historical grandeur and modern dynamism and is a great place to start your travels around India. Explore iconic landmarks like the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, and Humayun's Tomb and amidst the urban excitement, find tranquility in green spaces like Lodhi Gardens and India Gate.

Delhi-Agra-Jaipur is a popular tourist circuit called the ‘golden triangle’ which makes a great 7-10 day long trip, especially if it’s your first trip to India.

Udaipur – Famous for its lakes. Go for the picturesque landscapes and lakeside grandeur at the City Palace and try a boat cruise on Lake Pichola (one of India’s most famous lakes)

Ranthambore National Park – One of India’s most renowed wildlife reserves so visit if you’d like to do a safari and some hiking. You will probably see the Bengal Tiger in its natural habitat amongst other local animals (deer, antelopes, leopards etc).

Golden temple – A little further out located in Amritsar. This is a sacred spiritual site in Sikhism

If you have more time and would like to travel further afield

For a wintery, nature holiday in the mountains – look further north to Shimla & Dehradun. There is relatively less to see but the nature is spectacular.

Goa is a must see for a beach holiday. The state has recently become a haven for digital nomads attracted by its spectacular weather and more laid-back feel. Goa is also famous for its music festivals, small batch gin production and luxury beach hotels

For a mix of the beach, hill stations and excellent food, we would recommend Kerala. Some highlights include houseboat cruises in Alleppey, tea plantations in Munnar, Ayurvedic treatments and visit Puducherry (a city heavily influenced by the French architectural style).

What will the weather be like?

The weather will be pleasant in the day and can be chilly at night. Temperatures can range between 18 to 25 degrees celsius in the day and can dip down to single digits at night - we would recommend packing layers for the evening.
